Friday Movie Night - Chernobyl & The Atomic Cafe

hot buttered popcorn It's Friday Night! Party Time!   Time to relax, put your feet up on the couch, lay back, and watch some detailed videos on economic policy!

The events in Japan have generated renewed interest in nuclear accidents. The worse nuclear accident, not intentional, is Chernobyl and the below documentary goes into some depth.

The Battle of Chernobyl

Next up is one of my favorite documentaries of all time, which shows the beliefs and attitudes towards nuclear technologies and the lack of awareness of the danger.

The Atomic Cafe

One would think Japan, of all places, would know the dangers of radiation.

Yes, in fact they do. The

Yes, in fact they do.

The Radiation Effects Research Foundation (http://www.rerf.jp/index_e.html) has been studying the impact of radiation on the Hiroshima and Nagasaki survivors for over 6 decades.

This is a sample group of about 100,000 individuals.

Reading their report, the impact of radiation on these survivors has been detectable, but numerically has been determined to be 420 deaths likely caused by the bombings as opposed to normal mortality:

a lobbyists/denial shop?

You've GOT to be kidding me, the deaths from the after effects and radiation on the two atomic bombs in Japan at the end of WWII are wikipedia, but pick a source.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy the immediate effects of the blast killed approximately 70,000 people in Hiroshima.[44] Estimates of total deaths by the end of 1945 from burns, radiation and related disease, the effects of which were aggravated by lack of medical resources, range from 90,000 to 166,000.[1][45] Some estimates state up to 200,000 had died by 1950, due to cancer and other long-term effects.[3][6][46] Another study states that from 1950 to 2000, 46% of leukemia deaths and 11% of solid cancer deaths among bomb survivors were due to radiation from the bombs, the statistical excess being estimated to 94 leukemia and 848 solid cancers.[47] At least eleven known prisoners of war died from the bombing.[48]

Unbelievable someone is trying to deny the effects of an atom bomb.
