The Manufacturers’ Shipments, Inventories and Orders for March 2011 was released today. New orders overall increased 3.0%. Removing transportation (which includes aircraft) from the numbers, new orders increased 2.6%. This report is commonly referred to as Factory Orders in the press and refers to domestic manufactured goods, both durable and non-durable.
The April 2011 ISM Manufacturing Survey was released April 1st. PMI dropped 0.8 percent points to 60.4%, from 61.2% in March. This is the 4th month for the manufacturing index to be above 60%. The employment index is at it's highest point in 38 years for the first 4 months of 2011.

The Philadelphia Federal Reserve Business Outlook Survey is a regional snapshot of manufacturing and it's a blow out this month. The overall index jumped 21.5 points as well as the highest reading since December 2009.
